The Local is a locally-owned, independent news service for the suburb of Mount Victoria, Wellington.

The Local aims to keep the Mount Victoria neighbourhood informed about local events and issues that affect them, with the goal of building community networks, and supporting greater civic participation.

With the consolidation of the main news platforms in Aotearoa New Zealand, regional and local news coverage has been the loser.  However our experience is that there is huge appetite from the community for quality local news.
